Reddit AMA

The reddit AMA that I set up with Ella has had an absolutely crazy response! It is currently the most responded to thread on reddit. This is great news, as it confirms how little people know about the industry, as well as how intrigued they are by it. My initial intentions in starting the thread were to identify the areas people knew the least about, however the response has been so huge that in the end almost every facet of the industry has been asked about.

There were, however a few questions that kept coming up:

• Have you ever had anyone ask for anything you felt uncomfortable doing / is there anything you won’t do?

• Why did you choose to be an escort?

• Are you in a relationship or do you wish to be in one / “what about boys?”

• When you say escort, do you mean prostitute?

• Are there any (clients) that you start falling for or look forward to?

• What are your clients looking for / is it all about the sex or is it more deep rooted?

• How much can you make from escorting / does it pay well?

What has particularly impressed me from the AMA is how secure Ella is in talking about it. There were a few nasty comments, and her arguments against them were incredibly calm and considered. Although I know she intelligent, I was so pleased with how eloquently she defends her work. One of my concerns in doing this project was that it would shed even more negative light on the industry if the people interviewed lived up to the stereotype. However Ella breaks it, and has so many excellent views that challenge the stereotypical portrayal of women in the industry, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The distinction between escorting and prostitution is something that I definitely need to explore further. I want the girls opinions on it, as well as a client and if I can someone from the police.

Another thing that I have taken from the AMA is how much discrimination and aggression there is towards escorts. These are just a few examples:

Prostitute, escort, it's all just a fancy justification for the fact you sell your pussy for money. A spade is a spade.

Reading these angers me greatly. These are exactly the attitudes that force the people involved in the industry into hiding, keeping them at the fringes of society. Although they represent the extreme side of opinion, they further justify why I believe my project is important. Like me, so many people on the thread have expressed surprise at how thoughtful Ella’s responses were, especially in regards to the legal aspect. If my film can change even a few people’s opinions on escorts then it will have been worth it.
