Hey,
Sorry for the slow reply to your email. The project sounds really interesting and I do agree with you about the way escorting is shown in pop culture. What exactly is it that you want to know? I wouldn’t mind talking to you if my face and stuff weren’t in the final film. Also I work with another girl Ivy, and I forwarded her your email and she is definitely interested, she does sociology and is writing a PHD on the sex industry.

Hi again Ella
Thanks so much for your response. I’m glad you agree, it is something that I have discussed a lot with Bex since she started working in the industry, and I’m glad that the project isn’t seeking to explore irrelevant issues.
If I’m honest there isn’t anything too specific that I am looking to find out. From my initial research into the industry the main areas that I am interested in are:
- Why women get involved, their motivations and the circumstances that lead them to working as escorts
- How did the women go about getting involved – through agencies or self advertising?
- What is the relationship like with your clients? Do they ever get the wrong idea and do you ever find yourself developing feelings?
- What is it like working as an escort? Is it as glamorous as portrayed on TV shows such as Secret Diary of a Call Girl etc
- How do you work alongside the law and how do the laws on prostitution affect the way you would like to work? Do you agree with the laws?
- How does it affect outside relationships?
These are just some rough areas that I would love to find out about. Because my main motivation for the project is to show the industry from the point of view of those involved, I would be looking to use these as a starting point, then from conversations with you hone in on the things that you feel are important, which will most likely be completely different to what I imagine them to be as an outsider. Would these general areas be something you would feel comfortable discussing? Is there anything important that you feel would be worth raising?
Absolutely brilliant news about Ivy! I want to take a really conversational approach rather than formal interview, so hearing two points of view and having each other to bounce off would be absolutely perfect.
Are you free at all at any point this weekend? Perhaps we could meet for coffee to discuss further?
All the best,
Bethany
Once Ella confirms that these would be areas she would be willing to discuss with me, I will attempt to organise a face to face meeting.
